Who are The Gibson Girls? Where is Gibson Manor? Why does this blog feel vaguely anachronistic?
The Gibson Girls are a society of young ladies drawn together by a thread of common interests that set them somewhat apart from the modern Teen Scene. They have avid interests in historical costuming, classic literature, old movies, and the Victorian Era among other things. Rather than Mountain Dew, they drink Earl Grey–rather than Shrek 3, they watch Pride and Prejudice. One might even say rather than skateboarding, they knit.
This all sounds very solemn, but if you have read any of their journal entries here, it will become very apparent that they have plenty of fun and goofiness about them! They may be a little bit odd, but they are by no means boring.
That may explain the Who, you say, but what about Where? When? Do we really live together and do we honestly run around in corsets and crinolines? Well, not quite. We are scattered all across the globe, but we have a common ‘Castle in the Air’ that we all tennant: Gibson Manor. Gibson Manor is an imaginary English estate located in an undisclosed location within Kent, England. The grounds are spacious, the library brimming–naturally, we have a butler named Jeeves and a cook named Kit. Also, the year happens to be 1908 rather than 2008.
